Writing Your Leadership Case Study

Leadership is an area that you will almost certainly be asked to write about extensively on any business course at any point within your education. Leadership style is something that has a massive impact on a company and the resignation of a someone that has successfully led a company can have a significant impact. The resignation of Steve Jobs from Apple in 2011 for instance wiped over $10bn from its share value.

Writing about different styles of leadership or trying to define what makes an effective leader in different industries is something that you will be asked to do. But like any other assignment your leadership project will need to be completed perfectly if you want to get the grades that you need for your future. This can take a lot of hard work; especially if this is not your strongest area.

Tips for Writing Your Leadership Assignment

The following are some easy to follow effective tips that you can use to help with your leadership project. Using these will help you to research and write your project in a more effective manner:

  • Pay attention within your classes: Almost everything that you will need for your course will be discussed within your classes as well as within any reading that you are assigned. So always ensure that you do all of the reading and attend all classes with an aim to actually listen and digest what is discussed.
  • Do effective research: Google is not the only place from which research is conducted. Use the library to access relevant papers and journals for information that you can use within your leadership research. If you do use the internet use respected sites only and try to trace any information back to its primary source. Make sure that you collect all of the information that you will need to complete your bibliography and in text citations.
  • Understand your assignment: Read your leadership case study very carefully to ensure that you are totally clear as to what you are being asked to provide. If you are not clear then ask your tutor for clarification so that you don’t waste your time answering something else.
  • Create an outline: This will help you to save a huge amount of time during the actual writing process as well as highlighting any holes in your knowledge. While many students like to jump straight into their writing the use of an outline will ultimately always save you time in the long run by organizing your thoughts and ideas before you actually launch into your writing. An outline does not have to overly complex; simple notes within the structure of your paper showing what should be included is often enough.
  • Review and proofread your work: While mistakes in high school will typically see your work returned with a lower grade and covered in red pen marks, they can see papers rejected at higher stages in your education. So always edit your writing to make sure that it flows well and is written in appropriate language and also proofread to remove any possible errors in your writing.

Remember however to always be very clear about what is expected of you; as William C.Rice of the Harvard Writing Center says:

“If, having read the assignment carefully, you’re still confused by it, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification from your instructor. He or she may be able to elucidate the question or to furnish some sample responses to the assignment. Knowing the expectations of an assignment can help when you’re feeling puzzled. Conversely, knowing the boundaries can head off trouble if you’re contemplating an unorthodox approach. In either case, before you go to your instructor, it’s a good idea to list, underline or circle the specific places in the assignment where the language makes you feel uncertain.”

As long as you put in the time and effort required then you should be able to craft your custom written leadership assignment or paper by following the advice above.
